Re:  Donald C. Power Laboratory

Dear Sirs:

The Donald C. Power Laboratory of Stanford University located at 1600 Arastradero
Road, Palo Alto, has been having a serious problem with persons who drive their
vehicles off the paved roads leading to the Laboratory.  These persons enter upon
Stanford's lands for the purpose of "joy riding" and have caused serious ecological
damages to the rolling foothill lands surrounding the Laboratory.

On a number of occasions Lloyd's Automotive Service has responded to service calls
from persons whose vehicles have become stuck in the mud while on Stanford's lands.
As an example, a pickup truck which became stuck on the night of Monday, January
9, was towed by Lloyd's.  However, the first tow truck which responded to the call
also became stuck, and it was therefore necessary for a second tow truck to extricate
the pickup truck and the first tow truck.  All of these movements off of the paved
roads caused deep rutting and scarring of the lands adjoining the Laboratory.

In order to attempt to discourage further unauthorized use of Stanford lands, you
are hereby given official notice that you are not permitted to drive your vehicles
off the paved roads of the Donald C. Power Laboratory at any time without securing
the prior permission of the undersigned Associate Director of the Stanford Artificial
Intelligence Project in Room 206 of the Donald C. Power Laboratory.  Permission to
drive off the paved roads will only be given during business hours 
(8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.).

Any violation of these instructions will be deemed a trespass and will subject
you to liability.
